White Sauce

"Mexican" Ranch Dip
Salsa Blanco

Who cares what you call it, it's freakin awesome.

I first had this dip at a local taco/burrito dig called Chiloso. I always got this sauce with everything. Chips, nachos, breakfast tacos (ugh, yes). And then another hometown-local burrito chain that no longer exists had it. For two years, I looked everywhere for the recipe. I know it should be an easy recipe to make. But I wanted to have the exact, perfect recipe. Never found it.

And then came Pinterest. After about a year of pinning, I found a copy cat recipe of Chuy's jalapeno ranch dip. I honed in on that recipe so fast it'd make your head spin. So I looked and it seemed pretty on target for what I wanted. Except it has tomatillo in it. I'm sure what I'm looking for didn't. And this was a rather large recipe so I halved it.

1 1/3 C mayo
1/3 C buttermilk
1/3 C jalapeno, canned
1 Tbsp jalapeno juice
A small bunch of cilantro, chopped
1 packet of dry ranch mix - I used the larger packet, I think there's a small packet.
1 Tbsp lime juice

I chopped the small handfull of cilantro and blended everything together in the blender (we dont have a food processer) until it was all chopped and creamy.

I guess this is right. It's still a bit tangy and salty. But daaaaaaamn it's good.

  1. Yum! I wonder if that's the same sauce that Berryhill (a restaurant here that we love!) has...I may have to try out the recipe to see!

    1. Very likely! It's pretty easy. Except I still smell cilantro - ugh!
